Who Is Charles "Inner G" Johnson?
Charles “Inner G” Johnson is an Mixed Martial Artist (MMA) professional fighter who’s been all over the world, and he learned the lessons that have shaped him along every step in his journey. Johnson was a high school standout and began his combat sports journey in the eighth grade. Before long, he had become completely immersed in this new sport that would take him to the next level. When he was in college, Charles went on to be an All-American cross country and track runner for the University of Arkansas Pine Bluff. When he came back from The University of Arkansas Pine Bluff, a friend and fellow wrestler, Kenny Porter, needed a training partner for an upcoming fight and Johnson happily obliged. Soon after, Johnson would begin training for his own fights. He furthered his training in Thailand with the famous Tiger Muay Thai alongside current UFC bantamweight champion Petr Yan. in 2020 the pandemic hit, Johnson then returned home where he trains alongside UFC welterweight Khaos Williams. He has compiled a solid record and is now ready to take on any challenge that comes along! Where did the nickname "Inner G" originate from?
“I have a reason behind most things that I do,” Johnson began, “And I was deciding on a ‘fight-name’ — and I didn’t wanna go with some bullsh** like everybody else, like the hammer or something like that. For me, it’s gotta have some meaning behind it. I’ve always been a very energetic kid, bouncing off the walls, and getting into sh** so when I became a fighter and it got time to pick a name that’s what I came up with.”
The year of the "Inner G"
Johnson has been working his way up the flyweight rankings, and a title defense against an unbeaten prospect would be huge for him. He’s done everything possible to make sure he knows as much about mixed martial arts as someone can know before fighting in this sport; it shows with how likable Johnson is too!
Johnson put together a perfect year in the ring, fighting three times and winning all of his matches to go 3 – 0. He started off the year by submitting Karlee Pangilinan at LFA 100. Five months later Charles took on Yuma Horiuchi at LFA 110 for an interim flyweight championship fight which he won via split decision to capture the belt. Then just eight weeks after that, at LFA 114, Charles won a title defense bout when he faced-off against Joao Camilo, who he defeated via technical knockout rule (TKO) in round two of that bout. Next up for Johnson is an undefeated challenger fighting out of Brazil, Carlos Mota. The two fighters will clash on January 21, 2022 at LFA 122.
Johnson’s Next Opponent is Undefeated Carlos Mota
Carlos Mota has had a rough year in 2021. He started off with the intention of facing flyweight champion Victor Altamirano at LFA 100, but ended up withdrawing from his bout just one week before battle due to unforeseen circumstances which prevented him from traveling abroad in time for fight night. Mota was then planning on fighting one more time in 2021 against Rodrigo Roldan at LFA 111, but visa issues halted that. Undeterred, Mota moved up two weight classes and defeated Jefferson Oliveira just two days later at LFA 112. Mota will not have the crowd in his corner at LFA 122 because the fight is set to take place in Johnson’s home state of Missouri at The Factory at the District in St. Louis.
