Yolo Rum Mojito Pitcher

Mojitos are a great way to cool down on these hot summer days, but when you have an outdoor dinner party there’s always the challenge of how many drinks can be made at once?

The Classic Mojito was invented in Havana, Cuba – the exact origin is unknown. Some say it goes all way back to the 1500s with an early combination of lime sugar and rum that became popularized by writer Ernest Hemingway during his time in the region between the 1930s until 1950s.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups Yolo Rum Silver
  • 2 cups soda water or club soda
  • ½ cup water
  • 1 cup lime juice (about 8 limes), plus 1 lime for the garnish
  • ½ cup sugar
  • ½ cup loosely packed mint leaves, plus a little extra for the garnish

Instructions:

Add the sugar, water, and mint to a small saucepan and heat over medium heat. Bring to a simmer and stir until all sugar is dissolved. Turn off the heat and allow it to sit for at least 5 minutes. Then strain it into a large pitcher.

Add the lime juice and Yolo Rum to the pitcher. Add the extra mint leaves and the extra lime, and cut into rounds. Fill the pitcher with 4 handfuls of ice. Gently stir in soda water just before serving.

The Blue Hawaii

Here’s a blue drink that will take you back to the beaches of Hawaii. This one is classic 1950s, from its crushed ice and umbrella- drinks just don’t get more authentically vintage than this. Both vodka and rum feature in sweet tartness thanks to an ingredient which brings along with it color straight out of ocean waters – what else could we need?

The Blue Hawaii is a tropical cocktail made with rum and vodka. It was invented in 1957 by Harry Yee at Waikiki’s famous Marquis Hotel bar while he served tourists who had just come back from their trip to Hawaii; all because they were drinking too many frozen drinks! The reason behind this drink? Well, it was all a marketing ploy. A sales rep asked Harry to create a drink with his company’s product, blue curacao, the orange-flavored liqueur that gives this drink its color! He named it after the song Blue Hawaii, some people mistakenly think it’s named after the Elvis Presley movie of the same name.

Ingredients:

  • 3 oz Yolo Rum Silver
  • 3 oz vodka
  • 2 ¼ oz blue curacao
  • 6 oz pineapple juice
  • 1 ½ oz lemon juice
  • 1 ½ oz lime juice
  • 1 ½ oz simple syrup
  • garnish: pineapple wedge, cocktail cherry, drink umbrella (optional)
  • crushed ice

Instructions:

Place the Yolo Rum Silver, vodka, blue curacao, pineapple juice, lime juice, lemon juice, and simple syrup in a cocktail shaker. Add 2 handfuls of ice and shake until cold.

Strain the drink into a hurricane glass filled with crushed ice. Garnish with a pineapple wedge and cherry.
