Yolo Rum at the Rum Bar in Key West

Join us at the Rum Bar at the Speakeasy Inn on Duval St. this Thursday September 17th for a special two hour Yolo Rum tasting hosted by Bahama Bob Leonard

Yolo Rum is finally coming to Key West, Florida, and to celebrate, we invite you to join us at the Rum Bar at the Speakeasy Inn on Duval St. (1117 Duval St. Key West, FL 33040) this Thursday Sept. 17th from 4 PM – 6 PM.  Bahama Bob Leonard has been kind enough to invite us in for an exclusive two hour tasting at the Rum Bar to provide the opportunity to taste these award winning rums from Don Pancho Fernandez.

Key West has a long history with rum, due in part to the extended residency of Earnest Hemingway, a notorious rum drinker himself.  Hemingway visited Key West for the first time in 1928.  Then Hemingway, wife Pauline, and their two sons lived together at the now “Hemingway House“, just a few blocks away, from 1931-1940.  Well beyond that, The Speakeasy Inn was the home of Raul Vaquez, who was a cigar selector at the Gato cigar factory.  Raul’s true passion was rum-running between Key West and Cuba.  Raul’s affection for adventure, rum, and gambling manifested itself as “The Florence Club“, a speakeasy that Raul operated in the back of his home.  “The Florence Club” was a successful and popular speakeasy during the Prohibition era.  In general, Key West’s close proximity to the coast of Havana Cuba created quite the market for one of Cuba’s most desirable exports, rum.

Besides this location being steeped in the history of rum in Key West.  Fast forward to the present, when the Rum Bar at the Speakeasy Inn was recognized as “One of the world best rum bars” by Caribbean Journal in 2014.  The Caribbean Journal calls the Rum Bar “…a classic in the heart of a town that loves the spirit.”  And the man behind the bar, if your lucky, is the Rum Bar’s leader, and another rum icon in his own right, “Bahama Bob” Leonard.  Surely, if you are a rum drinker in Key West (or not living under a rock) then you know who Bahama Bob Leonard is.  For those that might not know who Bahama Bob is, then here is a brief introduction.
