How the Blue Hawaiian Came to Be

Bartender Harry Yee developed the Blue Hawaiian at the Hilton Hawaiian Village in 1957. Yee was asked by the Hilton’s liquor distributors to create a cocktail based on curaçao liquor. Dark and Spicy with Yolo Rum

This Yolo Rum recipe will help you take shelter from the storm in this safe harbor!

Everyone knows about the popular dark and murky rum cocktail that is trending at some hipster bars. Yet each mixologist always adds or omits something in this simple cocktail. We decided to completely remove the storm from the name and we added some spicy instead. We also want to warm you about getting carried away and adding too much of any of these ingredients. By just carelessly adding these ingredients together you can ruin the whole experience, so pay close attention to the ratios. Also blanching the sliced jalapeño for two minutes in boiling water and letting them rest in an ice bath before serving, will improve the color and balance of the jalapeño’s natural spice. No true Bermudian would put jalapeño in their sad and stormy cocktail, but here in Colorado, that’s how we love it!

Dark and Spicy Recipe

5oz Reed’s Extra Ginger Brew over ice
1.5oz Yolo Rum Gold
Squeeze lime
Stir
Garnish with fresh jalapeño and lime wedge

Yolo Rum and Coke

The Cuba Libre. A timeless classic.

Also known as a Rum and Coke, this simple drink won’t disappoint.

Rum & Coke is a timeless classic cocktail, and the best part about this cocktail is that everything that you’ll need to make this most beloved rum drink is right there in the title. But, even this simple cocktail can be made incorrectly. Here is a refresher for you because your friends and family will thank you for reviewing it before your next get together. The Rum & Coke can be an extraordinary cocktail, with simply the right glass, ice and with only the best ingredients. The only thing that might differentiate your Rum & Coke (Cuba Libre) from your friend’s and family’s is your choice in soda. We think you should drop your ego and find the best cola that complements Yolo rum and we definitely think Coca-Cola Classic (made with real sugar) is the right choice. It’s sweet, but not as sweet as its competitor Pepsi, and certainly don’t take our word for it. You only live once, and be extraordinary!

Yolo Rum and Coke Recipe

5oz Coca-Cola over ice
1.5oz Yolo Rum Silver
Stir
0.5oz Yolo Rum Gold floater
Garnish with lime wedge
